On the shoulders of giants

We returned to Italy today after a brief soggiorno in France. As you no doubt know if you have been keeping up with our posts. [Note, there will be a test at the end of the month.]

Day 9 014
A near miss.

Over the past several years we have grown quite fond of France and Paris in particular. But this brief visit was less of a vacation and more of a place to call our office. It was a working vacation with an emphasis on working. Not to complain, as we did manage to take a day off and visit the champagne region and we did treat ourselves very well at mealtimes. And when the opportunity arose to rise and leave our apartment, I took along my trusty Canon G12 and snapped a few pics of Parisian life.

Our apartment was a two minute walk from the Eiffel Tour and most of our wanderings took place in its immediate shadow. And on our second day in Paris we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the Jules Verne restaurant in the tower itself. In a way, our stay was just as dominated by the Eiffel Tower as the Paris skyline is by it.

So here’s to Gustave Eiffel’s magnificent monstrosity. A beautiful, enduring symbol of Paris that has enchanted Parisians and non-Parisians alike for over a century.

Gustave, I threw together a quick and dirty slideshow of some of my snaps of your tower. I hope you like it. Thank you Gus.

Ci vediamo!
